Good Tidings of Great Joy!

On Christmas Eve the eldest son (age 23) of a family in our neighborhood was killed in a tragic snowmobile/avalanche accident.  My heart ached and still aches for the family.  My first thought was, "what a horrible time of year to have a death in the family".  I wondered what  Christmas was like in their, normally lively, happy home, their Christmas festivities no doubt stopped in their tracks.

The funeral was beautiful, uplifting, and inspirational.  The family will feel the pain of their loss for a very long time, but they have full faith that if they live worthily they will see their son again, and that he is serving another mission for the Lord on the other side.

After pondering these past couple of weeks, I think I have changed my feelings about a Christmas death.  Our thoughts at this time of year are already centered on the birth and life of our Savior, Jesus Christ and we are reveling in the gift of His love.  After all, it is through him that we can have eternal life and eternal families.  What peace these glad tidings bring!

wow. That is so sad. Make you so grateful for each day we have together, doesn't it?
